About SWBA

The Southwest Business Association (SWBA) is enhancing the community through the power of its small businesses. With dedicated and passionate volunteers, the association has grown to cover an area of approximately 418 city blocks and 400 store-front businesses.

Partnering with neighborhood organizations, local government, community organizations and other business associations, SWBA has successfully combated the negative effects of large road construction projects, built a community approach to small business marketing, and brought in over $1 million in grant funds for store-front facade improvements.

Membership Benefits

Advocacy & Navigation
We work with government representatives to promote the needs of our local business community. This takes the form of positive relations with our elected officials, representation on issues brought forward by the city, and proactive efforts to introduce changes to policy that build better policies for our businesses and community alike. This work positively impacts all businesses in our district through a strong and well-respected business presence in the community.

Information & Advice
Members know that help is always just a call or email away. When you run into an issue, are looking for information, or just want another business mind to bounce around some new ideas, the association is here to help. Many times our coordinator Jessica Reinhardt is able to assist directly. When more in-depth expertise is needed, she can refer you to just the right people.

Networking & Connections
All the new ways of connecting haven't changed the fact that many times success is all about who you know. The association hosts monthly events to provide you the opportunity to connect with fellow business owners in the district who can refer you to great contacts, and may even be the source of surprising partnerships that can help your business grow.

Expanded Market Reach
To promote our members in Southwest Minneapolis, the association created the brand Experience Southwest. Through the Experience Southwest website, social media channels, area wide events, press relations and additional marketing projects, we raise the market reach of our members to area residents and visitors.

Cost Saving Benefits
Every dollar counts in a small business, and that's why the association also has discount partnerships established to help our members improve their bottom line. We've established partnerships with Office Depot, Adobe Software, Hotel booking and Entertainment discounts (for personal, staff benefits, and/or customer perks), and coming soon supplemental insurance benefits. All of these services are available at special rates only available through membership with the association.

Grants and
Brick and Mortar members benefit directly from the availability of on-going facade grant funding. Through our partnership with the City of Minneapolis Great Streets program, we provided matching funds for businesses looking to update, upgrade or add visual and energy efficiency enhancements to their storefronts. This work has transformed the sleepy business corners of the past into bustling and successful business centers in our communities. Businesses need not be members to take advantage of these grant funds, but strong membership helps the association demonstrate stability and security, which allows us to continue securing grant funding as we move into the future.

We strive to connect the organization's activities and output with what is important to the membership and business community at large. To better serve our community and provide an online presence for our business members, SWBA launched version 3 of ExperienceSouthwest.com. We hope you bookmark this directory and use it to locate information and locations of restaurants, service providers, schools, retail, automotive, churches and more!

Help us continue to address your concerns as a business owner. Call 612-823-3472 or Email us if you have questions regarding membership or want more information. Membership is available on both annual and monthly payment plans.
