Fellow Business Owners,

Some significant changes in earned sick time and employee scheduling are bei
ng proposed by the Mayor and some members of the City Council. If you have any employees or will have any employees, this will affect your business.

The City Council is moving forward on what Mayor Betsy Hodges refers to as the "Working Families Agenda" as outlined in her State of the City address this past April. We have been told some sort of legislation will come before the City Council in November.

An important meeting has been scheduled for October 1, 2015 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. with Council Member Glidden in the Commons Room at City Church to hear from you on how this proposal will affect your business. More details can be found below. If you cannot attend, please send your comments to info@experiencesouthwest.com as soon as possible.

Here is a link to the City's executive summary of what is being proposing:

While this initiative came out of the Mayor's office, it is the Council who will be voting on whatever legislation is considered. The authors of this legislation are currently Council Members Lisa Bender, Elizabeth Glidden and Andrew Johnson. I have been in contact with Council Member Elizabeth Glidden. She has stressed her desire to hear from the business community.  Importantly, no draft legislation has been written yet. Council Member Glidden assures me they are interested in hearing from the business community on how what is being proposed will affect the business community before any draft legislation is developed.

What is the SWBA is doing? How can you help?

Input. We have scheduled a meeting between Council Member Glidden and the business community for October 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Commons Room at City Church, 1501 W 54th Street for the primary purpose of having a forum where business owners can communicate with the Council Member on how their business would be impacted by these changes if they were made law. Your input at this meeting is critical in helping Council Member Glidden and other policy makers understand the impact of what is currently being proposed. If you cannot attend, please send your comments to info@experiencesouthwest.com as soon as possible.
